Run Tall Run Easy The Ultimate Guide to Better Running Mechanics eBook Gerard Pearlberg Reviews

In a clear and concise format Coach GP lays out some basics for improving your running by focusing on biomechanics. Without getting caught up in a pile of technical mumbo-jumbo, Coach GP provides a simple explanation to help every runner analyze the physics of one's running style. Yes, the training suggestions and other accouterments are there, too. But, as a RRCA and USATF (Level I) certified coach, it is refreshing to read a different point of view on my favorite subject matter -- running. This book could help make every reader run a litle better (maybe even faster in the process)!
In RUN TALL, RUN EASY coach GP has created a must-read for runners(beginners, experienced, young, old, and everything in between). I had the pleasure of meeting GP and hearing him speak one day before my 1st marathon, his words and techniques inspired me to finish in 40946, blowing away even my own expectations. Without any prior racing experience and having trained only 8 weeks i was thrilled with my time!!! I highly doubt, in fact know, it wouldn't have been such a succes if it wasn't for his wisdom. Already planning a second marathon-looking for sub four hours baby.... Coach GP and his book will make your dreams whether it be runnning a 5k to 1st marathon become realities, RUN TALL, RUN EASY.... dougfuino long branch, nj
Reading GP's book is like sitting down for a beer (or two) with your favorite friend - who also happens to be very knowledgeable in the field of distance running.
My study is full of books on endurance training. GP's is a practical one which I have returned to many times in the few short months I've owned it. It is practical and easy to read. GP's core ideas (his Fab 4) are well grounded in science and he offers practical advice on how to apply them in everyday training.
It is a pleasant book - and it has been a very helpful book. For any distance coach looking for a user-friendly tone in what can be a very technical & scientific sport it is 14.95 well spent. The athletes I coach will benefit this season from GP's Fab 4 and his Top Twenty core exercises. I have benefitted already from the friendly tone and easily understandable nature of GP's writing style.
(The author is USATF certified Level II in Endurance Events and has been coaching track & field since 1989)
I really enjoyed this book when I read it. I applied all the running mechanic suggestions, and my knees and hips felt immensely better during and after runs.

However, the midfoot strike took a toll on my body. I developed a stress fracture in a sesamoid bone (near the ball of my foot) in my left foot. This was in August 2009. I have seen 3 doctors and been on crutches. The latest MRI I got showed that the fracture healed improperly. I am still in pain. I do not run anymore, nor do I even walk properly. I just spent $500 on prescription orthotics. If they do not work, I will have to have the bone surgically removed.

I'm sure this book can do a lot of good for people, but it did a LOT of bad for me. I am miserable not being able to run and not being able to bear weight properly.

Change your footstrike with caution.
A former runner of mine in High School is now coaching in Eastern Oregon, doing very well with the Distance runners. He told me about "GP"right after he met the author. I am a follower of Fred Wilt's programs and found the excellent explanations in this book like frosting on the cake. RUN TALL, RUN EASY is the proper way to train. He covers Foot Strike, Arm Drive, Breathing & many more areas that need to be covered.

Special sections on CORE STRENGTH,UPPER BODY,LOWER BODY,THE FIRE WITHIN,
FUELING THE FIRE,DON'T EXERCISE-TRAIN,REFLECTIONS OF A COACH & LIFE IN THE FAST LANE are the leading chapters. With the advancement of solid, comfortable running shoes, many High School & College runners are over-striding. He explains, at length, how to overcome this poor mechanics & smooth out their running form. Running coaches will love this section.

I have retired from coach Track & Cross Country, moving to Arizona for the Blue Skies & Sunshine. I am selling off my library, your gain if you can get a copy of this book. COACH-98133
Book was pretty good. Binding broke in half after about three readings.
Not a fan. You won't find too much useful information in this book. The majority of the book is about "Joe" and his stereotypical antidotes of common mistakes novice runners make that has little to do with thriving athletes, and the rest you'll find filled with pages of common running exercises you can find on any website or youtube video. In the middle you'll see big print filled with lots of photos about how the author claims not to know everything but the underlying message is that he's better than all of you. There's about 10-15 pages collectively if you eliminate the photos and gibberish of useful running form and running tips, but again, nothing you cannot find on YouTube. Inside the book you'll also find 3 sexist one week training schedules labeled, "Novice Female Runner", "Advanced INJURED Female Runner" and "Elite Male Runner". Basically insinuating males are elite runners and females are either novice or injured. I was pretty turned off. Don't waste your money.
I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to improve and understand their running form and it’s importance. Coach GP gives you depth and detail in the book that why we, as runners, need to make the adjustments that we would not originally think about in order to help our breathing, comfort and help us improve our overall form. The pictures are very helpful throughout the book! This would be a great read before your training but it was also helpful to me in the middle of mine. Thank you Coach GP for your knowledge, expertise and for sharing it with us! Very valuable information!
